Space Telecommunication Earth Station

Opened in 1972 with a single antenna, the site quickly expanded to five large antennae and now contains a number of buildings which consist of a large visitors centre, a substation and control rooms. The largest of these antennae is 35 metres high and 30 metres in diameter. There are also a number of smaller antennae around the site.

The site closed in 2001 due to advanced technology such as GSM and cable. After closure the site served a number of purposes including a technological training centre for the unemployed. In 2007 an Indian broadcast company acquired the site to broadcast Indian television channels to Africa, they eventually fell in to financial difficulties and put the telecommunications centre on the market...
